Back To Basics
My studies are all about rediscovering our humanity. Respectfully, I want to make it clear that my work has very little to do with religion, politics, or other inexhaustible arguments. Whether you feel our humanity is larger or smaller than your personal ideas, I try to offer ideas and insights to all people regardless of the normal belief systems that divide humans into various groups. My lessons aim first and foremost on teaching us how to become better human beings so that we can become more effective at walking our individual paths. Understanding my position on this matter will help ease your mind and encourage flexibility in expanding your way of thinking and doing. Rest assured that I am not here to change or challenge the things that are highly important to you, but I am here to show you new ways of viewing and understanding them.
Empty Your Cup
They say the definition of insanity is doing the exact same thing over and over again and expecting different results. If you are reading this right now, chances are there is some area of your life that you want to change or improve. You do not like the results you are getting right now and you are seeking something different and more effective. If this is true, then it is a given fact that you are going to have to change some of the ways you think and behave. As you travel down the path of the Warrior-Poet you may find some pretty challenging concepts to wrap your mind around. Most people find their minds and bodies in a temporary struggle as they resist both new ways of thinking and old ways of seeing the world. This is a normal part of the learning process. My methodology has to do with shifting your perspective of the way you experience the world and that means you are going to have to relearn new ways of thinking and acting.
Before you can see real changes in your life, you are going to have to “empty your cup”. Empty your mind of the ideas and preconceptions that you currently maintain. Because your current path is not leading you to the results you are seeking, rid yourself of your own ideas and actively try to learn something new. Then, go out and test the principles and find out for yourself whether or not they are valid. I always encourage you to doubt! Doubt what you are learning and doubt what you already know. That is the only way you are going to find out which teachings are true and false for your personal life experience.
Function and Form
I always encourage students to be practical. Seek knowledge and wisdom that you can apply in your life right here, right now. I will be the first to admit that I love philosophy and contemplating an array of deep subject matter, but the truth is that sometimes we feel good about the way ideas sound, and then have no idea how to apply them in our personal lives. We need lessons that are going to produce real change in our minds and bodies. A good initial step is to value function over form. Stay away from the ideas that sound nice and get to the meat and potatoes of what really works. As you increase your personal power, I think you will find that function and form start to blend together as a single element, but let’s place function at the foundation of our daily practices. Use what works and throw away what is not useful.
The Middle Way
A Warrior-Poet seeks balance in all areas of their life. I encourage you to work equally to develop an understanding of higher principles of thought and the ability to put them to practical use. Everyday, I see people who are either too rooted in the mundane or to flighty in intellectual and spiritual thought. Those overly grounded in the mundane tend to have a hard time understanding having a vision for their life that lies beyond material gain and cannot easily understand the need to live a fulfilling and meaningful life through compassion and altruism. Those overly flighty seem to think life is all about energy, potentiation, and connection with the universe, but they have trouble living those principles or cannot manage some of the more physical characteristics when facing real world problems. I think all people have a natural inclination towards one way or the other, so find out what your weak points are and give special attention to them. Let’s aim to build both warriors and poets.
Mind and Body
A Warrior-Poet understands the awesome power of the mind and how it affects the physical reality we live in. I truly believe that the mind is capable of either hobbling our spirit or releasing it to flight. As you learn more about your mind and how it works, remember to put those principles to practical use. As a Warrior-Poet, thinking clearly and intelligently is not enough, you must be an expert at taking action. As you develop your physical and mental strength, you will start to see real changes in your ability to see clearly and act responsibly. Make it your goal to always include the mind and the body together in your daily practices.
Think. Act. Be.
The core sum of my methodology is to use proper thought and proper action to attain a proper state of being that allows us to access our full potential. We seek to become efficient thinkers as well as men and women of action. We seek life-mastery through self-mastery.
