Effective communication is as complex as it is critical. We may face a person while communicating with them, but our minds are very much looking directly behind us into our own past experiences. Until we grasp that every human being assigns different values and meanings to the same phenomena based on personal experience, then communication will always be eroded. The unnatural ability for a single person to see past their own ideas of the world requires an act of human intelligence, while the same thing between two or more people requires an act of human genius.
